Help with obtaining a Sri Lanka e-Visa

The authorities have suspended the issue of eVisas until further notice. If you are not eligible for the visa waiver (see below for nationalities concerned*), please apply for one on arrival in Sri Lanka.

In April 2024, the Sri Lankan government replaced its electronic travel authorisation (ETA) by a e-Visa to visit the country for tourism, business or a stopover. It allows multiple entries into the country up to 90 days and valid for up to 10 years. Most countries are eligible for this online application. Children under 12, previously exempt from consular fees, must now pay as an adult.

What are the eligibility criteria for the Sri Lankan e-Visa?

1️⃣ Documents

You must have a passport valid for at least 6 months after your arrival, passport photoand a letter of invitation/continuation ticket (for certain eVisas only).

2️⃣ Location

You must not be in possession of a valid visa for Sri Lanka and you must not currently be in Sri Lanka.

3️⃣ Arrival

Who is eligible for e-Visa?

All nationalities are eligible for e-Visa

Only nationals of 🇲🇻 are exempt. Maldives, 🇸🇨 Seychelles, 🇸🇬 Singapore and 🇨🇿 Republic Czech. Crew members of a flight or ship are also exempt.

*Since September 2024, the country has added the following nationalities to this exemption list (maximum 30 days on site): Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, Denmark, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Iran, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Costa Rica.

Those from 🇨🇲 Cameroon, 🇨🇮 Côte d'Ivoire, 🇬🇭 Ghana, 🇳🇬 Nigeria, 🇸🇾 Syria and 🇰🇵 North Korea should apply to the nearest Sri Lankan representation or to their Sri Lankan sponsor.

Consular fees for the Sri Lanka e-Visa (excluding service charges)

Tourism 30 days

You can enter the country only oncefor a stay not exceeding 30 days.

Tourism 60 days

You can enter the country twicefor stays not exceeding 60 days. The eVisa is valid for 6 months.

  • 95 € per person

Tourism 90 days

You can enter the country several timesfor stays not exceeding 90 days. The eVisa is valid for 1 year.

Business 60 days

You can enter the country for two stays of 60 days over a period of 6 months.

Transit 4 days

A stopover or transit for a stay of 4 days. Validity begins on your date of entry.

The e-Visa allows you to stay up to 90 days on site for 213 € per passenger, excluding service charges. For a transitthe Sri Lanka e-Visa allows you to stay in 4 days in the region.

We advise you to apply online at least 10 days before you arrive in Sri Lanka.

When to travel to Sri Lanka

Ideally, the best time to travel to Sri Lanka is from January to May. To avoid a heavy tourist influx, it's best to leave during the months of April and May when sun, warmth and tranquillity will be present.
